about

Two CD expanded reissue of the 1987 album from the Disco/R&B vocalist including a bonus CD that contains 10 bonus tracks. Jocelyn Brown is probably best known for her backing vocals with the likes of John Lennon, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson and George Benson. The album was produced by "Jellybean" Benitez. Guest artists on this album include Jellybean himself, along with Patti Austin and Marcus Miller.

I read the review that follows this one and it is the worst review I had ever read in my life. This is an excellent CD by Ms. Brown. The only thing the following review was accurate with was with the opening song "Egomaniac". It is the first track. Other than that it is off base. From the begining to the end you actually worry about Jocelyn because of two things; she is at the top of her game and she sings hard!!!
The second cut from the CD, "Love's gonna get you" is by far one of Jocelyn's better cuts and it stands right along with "Somebody else's guy" (1984). Another future classic is the foot stomping-hand clapping "Caught in the act". Again Jocelyn is right on the mark when it comes to delivering what the listeners want. "Whatever satisfies you" is a beautiful slow jam that could be added to any Quiet Storm Format. So if you want a true review from someone who appreciates this artist and truly good music, this is a must buy.
Buy it you'll love it!!!!! Also click on my name I have reviewed some other CD's on Amazon. I think you'll appreciate my input.

Jocelyn hit it big with her 1984 single "Somebody Else's Guy" which still to this day is one powerhouse recording. The following year she signed with Warner Bros. for her first solo album which a.o. would be produced by Jellybean, but the album received very little support by Warner, and a disappointed Jocelyn left the music business for some years. "One From The Heart" opens with "Ego Maniac", a song very much in the vain of "Somebody Else's Guy", perhaps a little too much, but nevertheless a good track. The following track, however, is better. "Love's Gonna Get You" was also the flagship single off the album but it didn't get much attention at the time, actually it has become better known later because Snap! illegally sampled Jocelyn's vocals for their hit "The Power". "Living Without Your Love" was a track Michael Bolton wrote & produced for Jocelyn - of course, Jocelyn's vocal performance is impeccable but the composition & production is too 80-ishly slick for my taste. Apart from the catchy "Caught In The Act", the remaining tracks are disappointingly mediocre, it also seems that Jocelyn's having a hard time sounding inspired. If you're a Jocelyn fan like I am, you'll have to have this album. Otherwise, you can capture its finest moment "Love's Gonna Get You" on the excellent 1998 "Hits" compilation.
